British Formula 3 champion Enaam Ahmed will make the step up to the European Formula 3 championship with HitechGP.
The 17-year-old became the youngest driver ever to take the British F3 crown, winning the title by 164 points in 2017.
Ahmed has already begun testing with the HitechGP squad, who enters its third full season in the European championship next year.
“I’m super excited to join Hitech for my debut FIA F3 Season,” Ahmed said.
“I’ve known Oliver [Oakes, team principal], since I was 10 in karting so we have a close working relationship already. I feel at home within the team and feel like we could have a strong package going into next year.”
Ahmed is the first driver to be announced for Hitech’s 2018 line-up. He follows in the footsteps of George Russel and Jake Hughes, who also made their European F3 debuts with Hitech after winning the British crown.
“We are thrilled to have Enaam onboard for 2018,” said team principal Oliver Oakes.
“He tested for us in Spa back in November and really impressed us with how quickly he got up to speed in the FIA F3 car.
“His season in British F3 has been very impressive.”
Ahmed will make his F3 debut at the Pau GP in May.
