Champion Ahmed Looking Forward To ‘Exciting’ 2018

BRDC British F3 Champion Enaam Ahmed is looking forward to an exciting 2018 season, after a busy few weeks of testing with European F3 cars.

Ahmed secured the 2017 BRDC British F3 crown after a dominant campaign which saw him claim 13 wins from the 24 races, and clinched the title with three races remaining. The performance was recognised with a nomination for the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award and also saw him claim the British Club Driver of the Year at the Autosport Awards.

And Ahmed admits that securing the British F3 title is one of his biggest achievements so far: “Being crowned British F3 champion is one of the best things to have happened to me in my life, a lot of hard work went into it and from the team and I’m very thankful.

“Getting nominated for the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award was very special. I’d always wanted to be involved, so that was a huge highlight in my career so far, but in terms of a racing highlight I’d actually say it was my weekend at Spa where I had some really good races, showed great speed and I really enjoyed racing with other people.”

Ahmed’s winter has seen him travel to several European race venues to take on an intensive testing campaign, as he learns the circuits ahead of a planned assault on European F3 in 2018, with visits to Spain and Portugal in the last week.

“Since winning the championship I have been doing a lot of testing with European F3 cars and anything else I can get my hands on. I’ll more than likely be racing in FIA F3 next year so it’s been a very intense last few weeks driving anything from Formula Renaults to FIA F3 cars and learning European circuits. Just this week I’ve been at Jerez and Estoril, before that Barcelona, and there’s still a few days to go before we finish for Christmas.”

With plenty of testing mileage under his belt, Ahmed reveals he is close to confirming his 2018 plans.

“I think we’ll be able to announce my definitive plans for 2018 in around a week’s time and it will most likely be in European F3, and I think there will be some familiar names racing with me too! It’s going to be a really exciting year and I’m looking forward to showing what I can do.”
