BRDC British F3 Champion Enaam Ahmed has been named as one of the four finalists for the prestigious McLaren Autosport BRDC Award.
Ahmed, who dominated this year’s series with 13 victories from 24 races, and claimed the title with a round to spare, will undergo the fitness and simulator elements of the competition with McLaren before undertaking a two day test at Silverstone in a variety of machinery including F2 single seaters and DTM cars.
The winner of the prize will be announced at the Autosport Awards on December 3, and will be offered a McLaren simulator role for 2018, a test in a McLaren F1 car, full British Racing Drivers’ Club membership and an Arai crash helmet.
Previous award winners include Jenson Button, David Coulthard, Dario Franchitti and Anthony Davidson. BRDC British F3 has an esteemed record with the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award, with last year’s award winner Lando Norris having competed in the series prior to his nomination, while BRDC F4 champions George Russell (2014) and Will Palmer (2015) have also claimed the award.
Ahmed commented: “The Award is something I had in my mind all season. I first went to the Autosport Awards when I was a nine-year-old karter with Martin Hines and the Award is something I’ve wanted to be involved in my entire life.
“I’m really looking forward to getting into the DTM car, which will probably be the most different to what I am used to and I think is a bit special.”
