What They Said – Donington Park Race Three

Enaam Ahmed surged to his 13th win of the season in the final race of the year at Donington Park, after a superb overtaking move on Cameron Das. Douglas Motorsport’s Jordan Cane was second and newcomer Alex Quinn third for Lanan Racing. Here’s what the top-three had to say at the end of the race:

WINNER – Enaam Ahmed, Carlin:
“I really wanted to end the year with a win so when I got close to Cameron I just threw it in and it stuck. We didn’t make any contact, I just about managed to stop the car. It was a really good move and ended with a win.

“I just want to say a massive thanks to everyone in the team at Carlin who gave me a really good car all year and now we can go and celebrate a little bit.

“I tried on the first lap and then once he (Das) passed me I thought I wasn’t going to be able to catch him but I was so determined and I gritted my teeth to catch him and I didn’t want to let him get away. I caught him bit by bit by bit and I got a really good run through the chicane and I just threw it up the inside and it just about stuck.

“It’s been a phenomenal year and now I need to focus on what I’m going to do next. It’s going to be an even tougher challenge, moving up the ladder is always going to be tough so now it’s all about getting ready for that.”

P2 – Jordan Cane, Douglas Motorsport:
“In all honesty I though we were going to be P1 at the end of the first corner as the Carlin boys almost came together and had a big squabble and I was saying in my head ‘please get together’ but regardless we had good pace, the speed of the car was amazing and we were matching Enaam to the thousandth of a second on the laps.

“This weekend has been a real turning point for us, in fact the last couple of weekends have been a big turning point. It just shows what we can do, it shows you don’t need to be in a Carlin car to win.

“It was chaotic from the start, we had a mega start again which is something we have been really strong on, this weekend especially. There was a big squabble going into the Melbourne Hairpin when Enaam made an aggressive move which bunched us up again. There was another squabble going into the Craner Curves and I managed to get Cameron around the outside of the Old Hairpin and I think he had a problem or something. But we applied a lot of pressure on Enaam to the end of the race and unfortunately we couldn’t get him but he’s got a bit more experience than me, but it’s a great way to end the year.”

P3 – Alex Quinn, Lanan Racing:
“I wasn’t expecting a podium this weekend! After Thursday testing I thought it may be a realistic opportunity and I’m really happy with the pace we’ve shown. The races haven’t been easy for sure, in races one and two we really struggled off the line having had no practice starts but in this race we got it sorted and actually gained a place. That gave me the opportunity to be up here and the team has done a fantastic job for me with the car so I’m happy.

“I’ve not had much time in the car but the team has helped me enormously and I think I’ve handled it quite well with my first weekend in British F3 and I’m very happy to end it on the podium.”
