Carlin: The Sky Is The Limit For Enaam

Trevor Carlin believes that 2017 BRDC British F3 champion Enaam Ahmed has an extremely bright future after securing the crown at Snetterton on Sunday.

The team has now won 10 British F3 titles and has a history of nurturing drivers that have graduated to Formula 1, most recently including Daniel Ricciardo, Jean-Eric Vergne, Kevin Magnussen and Carlos Sainz Jr. Carlin believes that Ahmed, who has won 12 times this year and matched Ayrton Senna’s series tally, has what it takes to go to the next level.

“You always hope for a performance such as this, and very rarely does it happen,” Carlin commented. “He’s right up there really [with other drivers the team has run in the past] because he has dominated and he has listened to the team and he’s worked with his guys and I think the sky is the limit really with what he can do.

“The next step up gets harder for him, whatever that may be, but if he can keep this approach then I don’t see why he can’t just keep winning.”

Ahmed made his debut in BRDC British F3 last year, finishing fifth overall with a single victory, before joining Carlin for the Autumn Trophy, which he won. With the team spotting potential in Ahmed, the youngster was signed up for the full 2017 season, with Carlin optimistic that the potential could be fully realised this year.

“He’s obviously very quick but he had issues last year and things didn’t go smoothly for him, and I thought if we could just harness that speed then something special could happen. What we hoped for has happened so we’re chuffed to bits,” Carlin added.

“He has worked very hard for this, we started testing back in January and we had a plan to just focus on winning races and that is what he has done. The end result is that he has won the championship, and to win the championship by winning a race is the ultimate success really.”
