Ahmed Continues To Set The Pace At Snetterton

BRDC British F3 championship leader Enaam Ahmed continued to head the order at Snetterton, heading into this weekend’s (27/28 May) rounds at the Norfolk circuit.

Toby Sowery was on fine form in morning testing, topping both sessions. He was unable to lower his time from the opening half-hour, however, as the second test ended early when Harry Hayek’s car hit the barrier at Riches.

The incident meant that all of the session one top ten times were quicker, and Ahmed was second quickest, ahead of Carlin team-mate James Pull. Debutant Jordan Cane and Chase Owen completed the top five.

In the interrupted second session, Cane was second-quickest, followed by Double R’s Guilherme Samaia, Cane’s Douglas team-mate Callan O’Keefe and Carlin’s Cameron Das.

Ahmed topped the first of the afternoon’s sessions, but was unable to beat Sowery’s best effort of the morning, whilst the Lanan man sat a quarter of a second behind in second, ahead of Das, Owen and Pull.

In the final session ahead of this weekend’s rounds, Ahmed and Sowery went head-to-head for the honour of the quickest time of the week. The championship leader set the initial pace, and went quicker throughout the half-hour, bringing his time down to 1:44.029, whilst Sowery got to within two tenths, but was unable to improve following a brief red flag period in the final ten minutes. Pull, Cane and Das completed the top five in the week’s fastest session.

The latest rounds of the 2017 BRDC British Formula 3 championship take place at Snetterton this weekend, starting with qualifying at 11.35am tomorrow, and race one of the weekend at 3.20pm.
